Brand-new State Department family in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Love their two little girls (she just recently had a baby while being posted in Dhaka), horticulture, traveling and adventure!
Email From The Embassy
State Department family formerly in Beijing, China, and recently posted to Amman, Jordan. A trailing spouse, she's also a writer, and frequently publishes articles with major news sources. A very experienced State family, this new post is something like overseas post number six or seven for them.
Just US
A beautiful family of seven - they have arrived at their new post: Jerusalem! They just finished off an unaccompanied tour to Iraq and are very much looking forward to sightseeing around the middle east.
Our Life
State Department family on their second post...Tijuana, Mexico. It's their first overseas assignment and they have two little boys. They love Tijuana so far and post pictures frequently! They also get to enjoy the best of both worlds for they can sneak over the border into San Diego when they want to!
The Dinoia Family
State Department family formerly in California, now in DC for a DC tour. Next, the husband will do a one year unaccompanied tour. A very experienced State family (formerly in Iceland and Caracas) with a blog that has been around quite a while and has great archives. Jen has a sweet heart and a lot to give!
The Perlman Update
State Department family formerly in Chennai, India, who then did a year-long unaccompanied tour in Iraq. They are now on a DC tour and after that will do another unaccompanied tour (Afghanistan). She totally tells it like it is and doesn't sugar-coat what life is really like. Witty, snarky, funny and down-to-earth. Look elsewhere if you want fake. Read if you want REAL.
Where in the World Am I?
State Department family formerly in Bujumbura, Burundi and now in Hyderabad, India. They just had their first baby this summer - a beautiful little girl- (there's a separate blog about this) and she also eats gluten-free (with a separate blog, also).

One of the most intriguing things about Chengdu is that it is a seamless blend of ancient and modern... all together, side by side.

The grounds of Chengdu monasteries can be very, very peaceful...even though they are smack dab in the heart of a city of millions of people.

In Which Jen's Victorious Nipples CONQUER ALL

So, last you heard, the link to my friend Jen's blog had been taken off of the State Department's Official Blog List.

But - good news!

It's now been put back up!

And State bloggers everywhere, who had lobbied together on Jen's behalf, were TOTALLY all:

It's a good day.

All manner of crazy things went down in between when Jen's link was first taken down and when Jen's link was ultimately put back up. Her story was all over the media! It was in The Washington Post multiple times, both online and in print:

And her story also (I was in this next one, too! -->) hit Jezebel, along with lots (and LOTS) of other online news sources!

The whole thing really went quite viral.

In the end, when State ultimately put her link back up on the Official Blog Roll, they even included a message not just to Jen but also to us State bloggers who freaked out when her link was first taken down:

And what's super duper cool is that Jeff Levine, who signed that awesome message, is going soon to be the Ambassador of Estonia, so he'll be there with James' and my in-real-life friend and State bloggy-pal Digger! Which is totally fantastic, because he sounds like good people.

In the end, I'm really glad State put Jen's link back up, because, as I said in my last blog post, Jen really deserves to be there. And while, as Diplopundit points out, all's not *exactly* well that ends well, this ended well for Jen, and I'm really grateful for that!

In the meantime, this whole thing got so big so fast that there are now calls for Jen's incredibly famous nipples to have their own Facebook page, their own Twitter stream, their own LinkedIn profile, and, ultimately, their own product line, advertising stream, and sponsorship deals! For truly, Jen's nipples have been vaulted seemingly overnight into epic stardom, and now are quite possibly THE MOST FAMOUS NIPPLES IN THE WORLD.

Well, there was nothing for Jen's nipples to do but to immediately retain me as their legal and representational counsel, of course.

And the phone has been ringing off the hook, people. For example, Nike called about a line of sports bras (since they know how much Jen loves to go running), and Victoria's Secret called about a line of super-glam, sparkly bras (I told them that when their models wear Jen's merchandise on the runway, they will NOT also be wearing those tacky paper-mache wings). And that's not EVEN including the sponsorship deals and product endorsements that are in the pipeline!

Oh, yes - Jen will be an extremely busy girl while her hero of a husband, Peter, is away this next year on his second Unaccompanied Tour. But it's good to keep busy, right?! :)

Holy crap... how did I miss the Jezebel article? I read that site religiously. Just unreal- the whole thing.

I've been lax in my own blogging, mostly because there hasn't been much to report (well, aside from R&R, which I suppose I should really post about), but this has me feeling reinvigorated.

I understand that the Department needs to find a balance between saying, "Oh, sure, employees, go ahead and say whatever the hell you want with no consideration for your position," and "No Facebook/Twitter/blogging for you!" but this schizophrenic attitude is clearly not working for them. Or us. It's pretty embarrassing.

James loves me. And our sons. And his job. But not having his picture taken. In 2011 he finished up over a year and half of training, and in the fall of 2011 we got to our first overseas post - Chengdu, China!
